Closing the achievement gap by enhancing language development in infants and toddlers
Because early language and literacy development are key to young children arriving to kindergarten ready to learn, the Ounce of Prevention Fund launched its Infant and Toddler Language and Literacy Promotion Project at Educare Chicago. The program placed a high emphasis on teacher training and school-wide strategies that encourage and improve the language development and vocabulary of infants and toddlers.
Evaluation of the project indicated the program helped Educare children increase their language development and school readiness.
Private funding allows us to develop and test new approaches, like the Infant and Toddler Language and Literacy Promotion Project, for educating at-risk children. To learn more or to support similar projects, please contact April Wozniak, Director of Development, at 312.922.3863.
