What if we could level the playing field for every child? With Educare, we can.
The Ounce developed the first Educare school in Chicago in 2000, to serve children birth to age five and their families in what was then the poorest Census track in the country. Soon after, we partnered with the Buffett Early Childhood Fund to create Educare schools in communities across the country.
The coast-to-coast network of schools makes certain that financially disadvantaged young children have the best possible opportunity for success in life. Educare’s comprehensive program incorporates what science says children birth to age 5 need to flourish.
Educare works. Several years of rigorous evaluation shows that when children leave Educare for elementary school, the majority are academically, socially and emotionally prepared for kindergarten.
Educare’s work is not complete until every child has an equal chance to succeed. Educare unites early education professionals, private-sector leaders, policymakers, families and other like-minded champions to improve access to high-quality early childhood education across the country.
