Report released that reviews current and prior childhood expulsion practices

Researchers at the University of Chicago at Illinois, led by Dr. Kate Zinsser, reviewed both the current and prior expulsion practices and the implementation of a law passed in January 2018 in a new report. The researchers surveyed administrators from more than 150 Illinois early childhood programs, which serve over 9,000 children.

Training opportunities are currently being planned throughout the state to help equip early care and education staff with the information needed to help reduce expulsion and suspension. The trainings and resources have been developed to respond to the needs of the field. Resources are available for parents, providers, programs, coaches and teachers and are being revised and updated.
