The Ounce of Prevention Fund works on public policy at the national, state and local levels to ensure every child is ready for kindergarten and beyond.
Through legislative, administration and grassroots advocacy, our Illinois Policy Team seeks to shape the foundational elements of the state’s early childhood system, including major funding streams, legislation, and federal and state initiatives. Throughout 2018, a number of bills became law in Illinois that are important for children and families, the early childhood system and early childhood practitioners. Legislation led by the Illinois Policy Team and its advocacy partners can be found in the Legislative Summary below.
The National Policy Team focuses on the intersection of policy, research, and practice, delivering policy content and advocacy expertise to state and local stakeholders, and supports the Educare Learning Network to shape and enact policies and systems needed to deliver evidence based early childhood practices that narrow the opportunity gap. Our State Policy Update (also below) provides a snapshot of early childhood care and education budget and policy changes in states during the 2018 legislative sessions as of October 2018, many of which resulted in greater access to higher quality early learning programs and more effective early childhood systems.
