First-of-its-kind program offers online professional development for home visitors
CHICAGO – The Ounce of Prevention Fund announced the launch of Achieve OnDemand™, online professional development for home visitors and supervisors. Achieve OnDemand builds on core professional development to instill confidence, practical knowledge and skills that home visitors need to effectively serve low-income children and families. The first full series will begin on January 26, 2015 and registration is open now.
Achieve OnDemand builds on 30 years of home visiting professional development in Illinois and enables the Ounce to help drive better outcomes for even more young children and families. By moving online, professional development can provide home visitors across the country the tools and resources they need while improving quality across the field.
Home visitors work with young families prenatally through the first first years of a child’s life. They help families develop the strong bonds and healthy relationships that are the foundation of a successful life. It is an extremely rewarding, yet equally challenging, profession. Home visiting professional development equips home visitors with the skills to navigate the challenges and rewards of serving families living in poverty.
Achieve OnDemand was developed by home visitors for home visitors. Created by experts in the field, the learning series delivers practical solutions and real-world experiences. Achieve OnDemand offers:
- Learning formats tailored to a variety of learning styles, from self-paced courses to instructor-led courses and interactive webinars
- Anytime, anywhere accessibility, including smartphone “know and go” applications
- Peer learning opportunities to mitigate the isolation home visitors commonly encounter
The Ounce partnered with Early Head Start, Parents as Teachers and Healthy Families America to pilot the program and ensure its applicability across various program models.
